Our Purpose
It was created to support the integration between patients, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams of scientists, researchers, designers and engineers through research, development and innovation using new bio-manufacturing and advanced manufacturing technologies to transform the medical industry and contribute to improving people's quality of life.

David Meléndez
Product designer with more than 13 years of experience in design and development of medical devices for the national and international market. Co-founder of Plex Studio, a design and product development studio focused on the development of experiences between the user and the product. Co-founder of Sketching Lab (2012), workshops and talks with experts in visual communication, entrepreneurship, business and design to promote and encourage the development and improvement of creative skills through innovative techniques and tools. In 2014 he established his own company Avant BioMedical, dedicated to the development of prosthetics and commercialization of custom implants for reconstructive surgery manufactured with additive technology (3D printing). He co-founded M3D Labs (2021), the first 3D lab in the region specialized in the integration of advanced Additive Manufacturing technologies for the conversion of medical images into 3D models for surgical approach.

Juan José Chacón-Quirós
Juan José Chacón-Quirós founded Establishment Labs in 2004. He currently holds the position of CEO of Establishment Labs Inc. since its inception in 2013. He has been involved in various sectors of the aesthetic industry, he was General Director for Latin America for almost a decade of an aesthetic medicine devices distribution firm, as well as Business Development Manager of a renowned plastic and reconstructive surgery clinic in Costa Rica. He has co-authored over 45 patents contributing to the advancement of technology in areas such as implants and surfaces, RFID and biosensors, 3D technology and surgical instrument development. He was President of the Costa Rican Rugby Federation from 2009 to 2015. He received his undergraduate degree from the Academie de Poitiers (economics) and attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He holds an Advanced Certificate for Executives in Management, Innovation and Technology (ACE) from MIT.
